Is Quest adaptive like ISEB, GL and CEM?

Only partially. Quest is partially adaptive in its independent form (for example, Maths may adapt while English is fixed) and appears as a fixed, paper-based test in some state consortia. ISEB, GL Adaptive and CEM Select are all fully adaptive.

What is the difference between Quest’s independent and consortium forms?

The independent-school form is digital and partially adaptive. The consortium form is a fixed paper-based test, so how you prepare depends on which form your school uses.

Can my child revise from a Quest past paper?

Adaptive tests cannot be revised from a fixed past paper, so preparation for the adaptive forms should focus on question types and timing rather than memorising questions.

What does each pre-test cover?

Quest: English, Maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, plus puzzle or logic tasks. ISEB: English, Maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning. GL Adaptive: the same with curriculum-aligned Maths. CEM Select: verbal, non-verbal and numerical reasoning, comprehension and problem-solving.

Do schools use a pre-test on its own?

Rarely. A common pattern is a pre-test to shortlist applicants, followed by the school’s own assessment such as comprehension, creative writing, a maths problem-solving paper or an interview. Check your school’s admissions page and prepare for that specific combination.
